दू दियादिन छल। तऽ दू दियादिन छल ने तऽ बड़की दियादिन कहलकय छोटकी के कि यै छोटकी चलु न से शिव चर्चामे। चर्चा होय छलय कत्तौ।
There were two sisters-in-law [wives of two brothers]. Now, between those sisters-in-law, the elder one asked the younger one, “Hey, come along with me to the Shiv charcha devotional gathering.” There was a Shiv charcha gathering taking place somewhere.
हम कथी लै जैब हम नै जैब चर्चामे से अहाँ जाऊ ने अहाँ छी शिष्य बनल। तऽ ऊ बड़की गेलय आ छोटकी नै गेलय।
She replied, “Why should I go? It is you who are a disciple, so you go.” So the elder one went and the younger one didn’t.
तऽ बड़की कहलकय कि से बेटा के बौआ रे सजमैन काटि कऽ जे तू सब्जी बना ले आ भात बना ले हम चर्चामे जाइ छियौ।
The elder one told her son, “Hey, son, go and cut the pumpkin and make vegetables and rice. I am leaving for Shiv charcha.”
तऽ पाछे लागल छोटकियो गेलय। तऽ छोटकी ने बेटा के कहलकय कि रे बौआ रे सजमैन काटि कऽ बड़की चच्चीमे से चोरा कऽ सजमैन काटि कऽ अथी सब्जी बना लिहें आ भात कऽ लिहें।
Then the younger one also followed her to Shiv charcha. She asked her son, “Hey, son, steal a pumpkin from your elder aunt’s home and then cut it and cook the vegetables and rice.”
तऽ ओहो गेलय। छोटकियो पाछे से गेलय।
Then she also left. The younger one also came along behind.
तऽ गेला के बादमे छोटकियो जे गेलय तऽ बड़की के बेटा सजमैन काटय गेलय तऽ ओकरा मने अथी हीरा मोती निकलय सजमैनमे से तऽ ऊ माय के दौड़ कऽ कहय जाय चर्चामे, मम्मी से देखी न हीरा मोती निकलय हौ लाल लाल सजमैन से चल न घरे।
After they departed, when the elder one’s son went to cut the pumpkin, he found diamonds and gold in the pumpkin, so he went running to his mother who was attending Shiv charcha, and exclaimed, “Mother, diamonds and gold have come out of the pumpkin, so do come home.”
तऽ मम्मी कहलकय कि नय से हम नय जैब से जो बांधि कऽ ललका कपड़ामे राखि दिहैं, बेटा के कहलकय।
But his mother replied, “No, I won’t leave here. You go and wrap those things in a red cloth.“
आ छोटकी के बेटा गेलय सजमैन काटि कऽ आ बनबय तऽ ओकरा खाली खून निकलि जाय, खून निकलि जाय।
And when the younger one’s son went to cut the pumpkin and cook it, he found only blood in it, only blood would ooze out.
तऽ ऊ जाय मम्मी के मम्मी गय सजमैनमे से खून निकलि जा हौ से चलही न।
Then he went to his mother, “Mother, come along, blood is oozing out from the pumpkin.”
तऽ ओ कहय जो न दोसर सजमैन काटि कऽ सब्जी बना कऽ आ करिहऽ।
But she answered, “Go and take another and make the vegetable.”
तऽ दोसरो कटलकय तऽ वैह बात भेलय। तऽ भेला के बादमे तऽ ऊ छोटकी के बेटा डेथ भऽ गेलय। मरि गेलय। हँ मरि गेलय।
So he cut another, but the same happened. After that, that younger one’s son died. He died. Yes, he died.
तऽ मरि गेलय तऽ बड़की के कहलकय ओकर छोटकी दियादिन कहलकय कि आंय जे हमर बेटा मरि गेल, तूहीं कहलैं हमरा आबय लै शिव चर्चामे तऽ हमर बेटा मरि गेल।
As her son died, she, the younger sister-in-law, told her elder sister-in-law, “Hey, my son died, you yourself told me to come to Shiv charcha, and that’s why my son died.”
तऽ ऊ ने कि कहलकय बड़की से हम अहाँ के कहली अहाँ के तऽ हम कहली चले लै तऽ अहाँ नय गेलियय आ आब कहय छियय हमरे बदनाम करय छी, से कहलकय बड़की।
To which the elder one responded, “I only told you to come along, but you said ‘no’, and now you are maligning me.”
तऽ फेर ऊ बाबा एलखिन रूप धऽ कऽ।
Then he again took the form of a sage and arrived there.
शिव गुरु बाबा एलखिन रूप धऽ कऽ बालक के।
Shiv Guru came in a child’s avatar.
तऽ कहलकय कि से कि भेलऽ दाइ?
He said, “What has happened, sister?”
तऽ एना एना बात हमर लड़का डेथ भऽ गेल हन।
She replied, “This and this thing, my son has died.”
तऽ कहलकय कि से अहाँ कोनो गलतियो केने छलियय।
He then asked, “Have you committed any wrong?”
तऽ नय बाबा हम नय केने छलियय गलती। तऽ केतबो बाबा हुनका पूछलखिन हठे नय कहलखिन जे हम गलती केलियय।
“No, father, I haven’t done any wrong.” No matter how many times the sage asked her, she insisted, “No, father, I did not commit any wrong.”
अंतमे बाबा घूरि कऽ चलि गेलखिन। फेर ओकरा चचड़ी आर बनेलखिन। बाँस आर कटा कऽ चचड़ी बनेलखिन, बना कऽ तकर बाद ओकरा लऽ गेलखिन अछिया श्मशान दाहय लै। तऽ ऊहां जे लऽ गेलखिन तऽ ओतो गेलखिन बाबा तभी भी बाबा फेर एलखिन बाबा के रूप धऽ कऽ शिव गुरु।
The sage finally left. Then they prepared a bamboo cot for her dead son. After cutting bamboo and making a bamboo cot, they took him for cremation at the cremation ground. When they took him there, there too, Shiv Guru, in the form of the sage, arrived.
तऽ फेर हुनका कहलकन ओकरा छोटकी दियादिन के दाइ तू गलतियो केलही तऽ कहय नय कखनो नय कहय नय।
Once again he asked her, the younger sister-in-law, “Sister, have you by chance committed a mistake?” She would never agree and said, “No.”
तब अंतमे जब ओतऽ चलि गेलय तऽ माया जे बाबा के लगलय तऽ बाबा कहलकय कि अच्छा रूकू रूकू जे अहाँ के हम से रूकू अभी बच्चा के अभी मुखमत्ती लगैयौ।
Then at the end, when everyone went there, the sage became kind and said, “Hey, please stop, please stop, don’t light the kid’s pyre.”
तऽ ऊ रूकि गेलखिन सब। तऽ फेर ओकरा मम्मी के फेर पूछय हय।
So they all stopped. Again he queried his mother.
तब मम्मी के कहलकय अहाँ बजियौ ने जे अहाँ फेर गलती केने छलियय जे अहाँ कहियौ न कोनो गलती केने छलियय जे ऐसा ऐसा बात है।
Then, he asked his mother, “Speak. Say that you had committed some mistake and say that such and such a thing happened.”
तऽ फेर ऊ कहलखिन अंतमे ओकर मम्मी कहलकय जे हँ बड़की दियादनीमे से कहलियय सजमैन काटि कऽ सब्जी चोरा कऽ बनबय लै।
Finally, his mother admitted, “Yes, I had ordered the theft of the pumpkin from my elder sister-in-law’s home and the cooking of the vegetable.”
तऽ तांइ ई हाल भेल तब ऊ कहलखिन।
He responded, “So, that is why this thing has happened.”
तब ओकर लड़का जिलखिन।
Then her son came back to life.
बड बढ़िया, बड सुन्दर, नमस्कार।

दू दियादिन छल। तऽ दू दियादिन छल ने तऽ बड़की दियादिन कहलकय छोटकी के कि यै छोटकी चलु न से शिव चर्चामे। चर्चा होय छलय कत्तौ।
हम कथी लै जैब हम नै जैब चर्चामे से अहाँ जाऊ ने अहाँ छी शिष्य बनल। तऽ ऊ बड़की गेलय आ छोटकी नै गेलय।

तऽ मम्मी कहलकय कि नय से हम नय जैब से जो बांधि कऽ ललका कपड़ामे राखि दिहैं, बेटा के कहलकय।
आ छोटकी के बेटा गेलय सजमैन काटि कऽ आ बनबय तऽ ओकरा खाली खून निकलि जाय, खून निकलि जाय।
तऽ ऊ जाय मम्मी के मम्मी गय सजमैनमे से खून निकलि जा हौ से चलही न।
तऽ ओ कहय जो न दोसर सजमैन काटि कऽ सब्जी बना कऽ आ करिहऽ।
तऽ दोसरो कटलकय तऽ वैह बात भेलय। तऽ भेला के बादमे तऽ ऊ छोटकी के बेटा डेथ भऽ गेलय। मरि गेलय। हँ मरि गेलय।
