एगो राजा रहथिनl तऽ राजा रहथिन कि ने, कहलखिन कि से अथी , एगो राजा जे रहथिन तऽ उ कहलखिन कि, जे रौ अइ गाममे ओइ गाममे सबके जते चीज बिकाइत रहय, जते चीज रहय सबके एके दाम रहय।
There once was a king. The king said, “Hey, all the goods that are sold in this village and that village, the prices remain the same.”
तऽ एकटा बजार लागल रहय, तऽ एकटा बबाजी एकटा के चेला के लऽ के एलखिनl
So, a market was underway; a holy man with a disciple arrived there.
तऽ उ कहलखिन कि रे चेलवा से हाट पर जो बजारमे आ शकरकंद से खरीद लागऽ, सस्ता देतय।
He said, “Hey, my disciple, go to the haat market,and buy sweet potatoes. They will come cheaper there.”
तऽ बबाजी छी हम सब, उ सब अपन खैब, पावनि केने रहै अनून,अनूने खैब।
“We are holy men; we will eat all those ourselves.” They were observing the festival. “We will eat unsalted food.”
तऽ उ गेलखिन तऽ जे चीज मोलबय से एके रुपये सेर, टके सेर टके सेर टके सेर, जे चीज मोलबय से टके सेरl
Then as he went, and whichever item he asked the price of, it was one rupee per kilo. Whatever he asked about, it was one rupee per kilo.
चेलवा कहलक कि अलूहा लऽ जैब तऽ हम उसनब आ ई छूछे खैब , तऽ टके सेर खाजा टके सेर भाजी सभटा रहै टके सेरl
The disciple said, “If I bring sweet potatoes, I will boil and eat only them.” And, khaja1 was for one rupee a kilo, and so it was for vegetables. Everything was for one rupee a kilo.
ई कि केलक तऽ एक सेर खाजा तौला लेलकl
So what he did was, he had one kilo of khaja weighed.
एतेक चढ़लय, हल्लुक रहय।
He got this much, yet even then it was light in weight.
मोटरी चोटरी बंधने आयलl कहलकय कि हैया ले बाबा खईयैह।
He came back with the packets, saying, “Hey, Baba, eat these.”
कहलकय ई बनबोहों नै पड़त, खैब।
He said, “This won’t even have to be cooked, just eat it.”
तऽ कहलकय कि, रे ई कहाँ से ले आया? तुमको तो कहे थे हम शकरकंद लाने के लिए तऽ ई कोनची ले आएl
Then he said, “Hey, I had asked you to bring sweet potatoes, and see what you brought.”
तऽ हो बाबा एके रुपैये सेरी ओहो दैत छलय, एके रुपैये ओहो दैत छलयl
The disciple replied, “Hey, Baba, they were selling sweet potatoes for one rupee a kilo, and this too was only one rupee a kilo.”
तऽ एतने होईतै ओकरा उसनैतौ आ छूछे खईतऽl
“This would have been just this much. And we would have boiled and eaten them.”
ई तऽ बाप रे सभटा चीनी तीनी दैले छै
“This, O my father, is just sugar and such.”
कते नीक छै आ कते भेलय तै ई लऽ लेलियय।
“How good these are, and we got this much, so we bought them.”
कहलकय रे एके, एक टके सेर है सब किछ?
The holy man asked, “Hey, are you sure everything was for one rupee a kilo?”
बाबा सब किछेl
“Yes, Baba, everything.”
ए रे भागो भागो यहाँ से। अरे अन्हेर नगरी चौपट राजा है भागो भागो यहाँ से। टके सेर भाजी, टके सेर खाजा अन्हेर नगरी चौपट राजा। भागो यहाँ से।
“Oh my god! Let’s run away from here. This is a chaotic city and a confused king. Let’s go, let’s run away from here. One rupee for a kilo of vegetables and one rupee for a kilo of khaja. A chaotic city and a confused king. Let’s run away from here.”
तऽ उ चेलवा जे रहै से अपन नै भागल। उ अपन रहि गेल जे खूब खैब अपन सस्ता चीज छै।
But the disciple didn’t go, thinking things were so cheap that he would be able to eat a lot.
बबाजी, चलो ना रे, चलो ना रे
The holy man said, “Let’s go, hey you, let’s go.”
नै बाबा तू जा हम एते रहब हमरा बड नीक लगय यै।
“No Baba, you leave. I will stay right here. I like it a lot.”
कहलकय कि जे जाओ कोई विपत्त जे पड़ेगा ने तुम हमको खोज लेना, नहीं जाते है तो खोज लेना, जब समय आएगा तब।
He said, “Ok, look for me if you come across any trouble. If you are not going to leave, then find me when you need me.”
हम जाते हैl
“I am leaving.”
बबाजी चलि गेलय जे अई नगरमे नै रहब। ई तऽ एतऽ सब चीज के एके दाम छै। ई तऽ राजे चौपट छैl अन्हेर होई छै नगरमे तऽ अन्हेर नगरी चौपट राजा, टके सेर भाजी, टके सेर खाजा।
The holy man left, thinking, “I won’t stay in this city where everything has the same price. This King is a total wreck. The city has become chaotic, and the king is a wreck. One rupee a kilo for vegetables and one rupee a kilo for Khaja.
चलि गेल एके, चलि गेल तऽ बबाजी चलि गेल महात्मा जी। आ उ चेलवा रहि गेलl अपन खाईत खाईत खूब कऽ मोटा गेल, कोनो राज ने काज, खाली खेबे करै आ सस्ता चीज रहै।
He left, Baba ji left, the holy man. And that disciple stayed back. He kept eating and eating, and since he had no work to do, he only ate and things were also cheaper.
कतो से एक रुपया मांगि आबे भऽ ये जाए, अपन खै।
He would ask for a rupee from somewhere, as this much was easy to fetch, and would eat.
राजा के फांसी के फंदा एलय बना कऽ। जे गलती करतय तकरा देतय नऽ फांसी के सजा दैत रहय। आबो दै है पहिलेहो दैत रहैl
The king had called for a noose, which arrived. Whoever commits a mistake will be hanged, no. Even these days, and this was in practice even in those days.
तऽ फांसी के फंदा एलयl तऽ ओ फंदामे कि ने बड़ी फैलगर फंदा रहय तऽ ऊ पातर गरिदनमे नै होई, जे गलती केने रहे तकरा लै, हाँ, तकरामे नै अंटे, नै अंटेl
The noose then arrived. And that noose was made such that it didn’t fit on people with a small neck, the people who had committed a mistake. Yes, it didn’t fit them.
एगोरे दुगोरे के मने पहिलेहे से मने अथिए जांचबे केलकय मने धरे है कि नई से जांचलकय कोनो मयारे के नईl
One, two, it was tested as to whether it fitted or not.
तऽ ऊ फंदा रहय ने कि नम्हर, तऽ कहलकय कि जे यौ राजा साहेब, अकट्ठी तऽ बड लोक रहय छै दुनियामे सब ठिना, से ऊ बबाजी जे छै, एगो छौंरा, ओकरा बड नीक हेतय, ओ बड मोटायल हय।
Since the noose was long, people – there are many jobless people in the world who would mess around with things – said, “O Lord, that holy man has a disciple. It will fit him as he is very fat.”
ओकरा गरिदनमे ई भऽ जेतय।
“This will fit his neck.”
तऽ कहलकय कि जे ला गऽ बजा कऽ ओकरा।
He replied, “Ok, bring that child to me.”
ओकरा लौलक बजा कऽ जे तोरा अई पर फांसी के फंदा पर चढ़ेबौ, तोरे गरिदनमे हेतय, तोरे नाप के छौ, तोरे नाप के छौ।
He was summoned and told, “You will be hanged by this noose. It fits your neck exactly, it’s your size exactly, your size exactly.”
तऽ ऊ कहलकय कि काटऽ लागल चिचियै लागल थमु थमु कनी हम अपना गुरुजी के बजबय छी। अपन महात्माजी के बजबय दियऽ।
He became upset and started crying. “Please wait, please wait, I am going to call for my master. Let me call my holy man.”
तहन ई अपन बाबा के बजौलक। बाबा गेल कहलक, क्या हुआ रे, क्या हुआ रेl
Then he called for his master. The Baba came and asked, “What has happened?”
आ तऽ बाबा हो बाबा हमरा एना एना तऽ कहलकय
“Baba, actually, I was told such and such.”
तुमको उसी दिनमे कहा इस नगरीमे ना रहो, तुम रह गया आ रह गया तऽ उसका सजा कोन भोगेगा, भोगोl अरे, सुनो तुम…
“I warned you that very day not to remain in this city. But you stayed. So, who will bear the punishment for that? And listen, you…”
कहलकय बाबा गोर लगै छियौ कहुना बचाबऽ।
He replied, “Baba, I bow down before you; save me somehow.”
कहलकय तुम जाओ, जाओ आ हम भी चलते हैं। आ तुम जोर से जायब दौड़ के जाएगा आ हम धीरे-धीरे आयेंगेl तुमको कहेंगे रे रुको रे, ए रुको रुको l हम बोलेंगे जे हम चढ़ेंगे पहले उस फंदा पर आ तुम बोलोगे नई बाबा हम चढ़ऽ दे।
He said, “You go first, and I will follow. You go quickly and I will arrive more slowly. I will ask you to stop. I will say that I myself will stand first for hanging. Then you say, ‘No Baba, let me go first.’’’
कहलकय जे हमरा चढ़ऽ दे बाबा। बाबा कहय जे रे चेलवा हमरा चढ़ऽ दे आ ऊ कहय जे हमरा चढ़ऽ दे।
He would say, “Baba, let me hang.” And Baba would say, “No, my disciple, let me hang first.” And the boy would again say, “No, let me hang first.”
अहिना होईत होईत होईत होईत गेल।
This went on for some time.
ई दौड़ल जाय, पाछु स महात्मा खेहारने जाए। ए रुको,ए रुको, रुको चेलवा, रुको चेलवा। तऽ ओ राजा कहलकय के है?
The boy would run and the holy man would run after him. “Stop, hey, stop! Stop, my disciple.” Then the king asked, “Who is he?”
तऽ कहलकय, इ समय ऐसा है जो इस फंदा पर चढ़ जाएगा ऊ सीधे स्वर्ग लोक जाएगा स्वर्ग में वास करेंगे तो हम लोग तो बहुत दिन से महात्मा मांग चांग के खाते हैं, तऽ ऊ कहलकय कि से हम पहिले अई पर चढ़ब।
He replied, “This is the time when whoever will stand for hanging with this noose will directly go to heaven. We are holy men and have been begging in order to eat for a long time, so I will go first.”
हम अपन चलि जैब मांगि चांगि कऽ खाई छी आ दुख कटय छी तऽ स्वर्ग चलि जैबl आ ऊ चेलवा कहय कि जे नई बाबा हमरा जा दै, हम पहिले चलि जैब स्वर्ग।
“I will go to heaven, as I have been begging here and eating.” And the disciple would say, “No, Baba, let me go first. I will go to heaven first.”
कहलकय कि रे एक ही गो को जाना है, हमरे जाने दो।
The holy man said, “Hey, only one can choose. So let me go first.”
राजा सोचलक कि जे हमहीं बनौलौं फंदा आ ई सब स्वर्ग चलि जैत, आ हम रहि जैब एतय ।
The king then thought, “It was me who had this noose made, but it is these people would go to heaven. And I will be left here.”
राजा कहलक नहीं हमको गला में दो तो। बस राजे गला में देलक आ राजे फांसी पर चढ़ि गेलl
The king said, “No. Put that on my neck.” And then the king went to the noose and hanged himself.
कहलकय भागो भागो यहाँ से ई गाम जो है ना चौपट हैl किसी का माथे नहीं है, खत्म है।
The holy man said, “Run away from here. This village is chaotic. Nobody has a brain here. Finished!”
रजे खत्म हैl ऊ राजा अपन लटकि गेल।
The king himself was finished. That king hanged himself.
खिस्सा एतबे टा के छलयl खिस्सा भऽ गेलl
This much was the story. Story is over.

बबाजी, चलो ना रे, चलो ना रे
नै बाबा तू जा हम एते रहब हमरा बड नीक लगय यै।

चलि गेल एके, चलि गेल तऽ बबाजी चलि गेल महात्मा जी। आ उ चेलवा रहि गेलl अपन खाईत खाईत खूब कऽ मोटा गेल, कोनो राज ने काज, खाली खेबे करै आ सस्ता चीज रहै।
कतो से एक रुपया मांगि आबे भऽ ये जाए, अपन खै।

तुमको उसी दिनमे कहा इस नगरीमे ना रहो, तुम रह गया आ रह गया तऽ उसका सजा कोन भोगेगा, भोगोl अरे, सुनो तुम…
कहलकय बाबा गोर लगै छियौ कहुना बचाबऽ।

कहलकय कि रे एक ही गो को जाना है, हमरे जाने दो।
राजा सोचलक कि जे हमहीं बनौलौं फंदा आ ई सब स्वर्ग चलि जैत, आ हम रहि जैब एतय ।
राजा कहलक नहीं हमको गला में दो तो। बस राजे गला में देलक आ राजे फांसी पर चढ़ि गेलl
कहलकय भागो भागो यहाँ से ई गाम जो है ना चौपट हैl किसी का माथे नहीं है, खत्म है।
