त उ कहालखिन जे अहां के पुछब की जे अथी गहना वाला मोटरी कता रखने छीयय त अहां कहबै की जे उहै बाड़ी में पर्ती वाला बाड़ी में गाईर के रईख देने छी। चोरबा सुनत त अस्थिरे है जे कोदैर उठा के कोरा लागत। त उ कहालखिन कि जे यई कता गेलौं।
चोर सब ऐलए राईत में बारह दू बजे राईत भेल त चोर आर ऐअल त कता गेलौं जे गहना जेवर वाला मोटरी की केलियाय। की केलियय ओहि पर्ती वाला में गाईर क रखने छी। चुप होऊ न कते बजे छी चोर सब सुनत त कोइर क ल जैत।
आब चोर त सुने गैल।मोन चपचपा गेलन। कोदैर अंगने में राखल रहे। चारु चोरबा अपन कोदैर उठेलक अा तामा के शुरू केलक। गोनू झा बहुत चालाक छलखिन। कहालखिन जे चोर के केना ठकब अा केना हमर खेत तमाय। कोदैर उठेला अा चोरबा दू छ मारे त ओकरा पूछे कि राऊ भेटलौ त कहे नई। त फेर दू छ उ टंगे त भेटलौ त नई। तामय तामय पूरा खेत ई ताईम लेलक त भेटबे नै केले ओइ में रहितय त ने भेटतय।
खेत त तमा गेल त कहलकय कि गोनू झा घर से कहय छथिन
मिललअ हउ तब कहय छथिन कि जो गोनूआ तू जीतलै हम हारली।
बुझलखिन सब हंसिए वाला है।
Gonu Jha wanted to have a small piece of his land tilled. He was not able to find any labour for that purpose. Yet he wanted the job to be done, so he brought in four shovels from somewhere and put them in the courtyard of his house. And then he instructed his wife that thieves would come that night as they would any given day. Then Gonu Jha said, “What I want to tell you…
now see once I started telling stories my son will just sit silent…
…So what I want to tell you is that when the thieves arrive tonight I will pretend and ask you, ‘where have you put the bale of jewellery?’ Then reply me, ‘I have buried that bale in our backyard.’ The moment thieves hear you saying this, they will start digging the land.”
The thieves arrive sometime between midnight and 2 am that night. Gonu Jha asks his wife: “Hey, where are you? Have you seen the bale of jewellery?” His wife pretends, responding: “Hush! why are you speaking so loud. I have buried it in the backyard that we need to have tilled. If there are thieves around they might just hear us and dig the field to steal our jewellery bale.”
Now, the four thieves who had come did listen to their conversation and were brimming at the thought that they had really struck gold. The shovels were already putin the courtyard. They picked those up and started digging the land in the backyard. Gonu Jha was very clever. After the thieves strike the land twice, he shouts to the thieves from inside his house, “Hey you all, did you find it? Please tell me if you find it.” The thieves kept digging in desperation and Gonu Jha kept asking them intermittently if they had had any luck. Finally, the thieves tilled the entire backyard, and Gonu Jha was feeling happy that his job was done. Gonu Jha asked once more,: “Hey, did you find it?” The thieves, leaving, told Gonu Jha, “Oh, man! You won; we accept our defeat.” And then they left.
Now you see, all his stories are actually funny.
